Lampard scoops his first Manager of the Month award

8.11.2019.

A perfect record in the Premier League during the month of November brought Chelsea's young manager Frank Lampard his first PL Manager of the Month award! Lampard led the Blues to four wins, two in which his team scored four goals, which was enough for the English tactician to get the nod.

A marker in the development of Lampard's career was deserved with wins over Southampton away 4:1, Newcastle at Stamford Bridge 1:0, Burnley away 4:2, and at Watford 2:1. The results took Chelsea to the fourth spot with 23 points, same as Leicester, two fewer than Manchester City.

"I would probably say out of the Premier League games we played in October, the one away against Burnley was the highlight because of the way we were so dominant in our performance and Burnley is a very tough place to go. People may have questioned the fact that we are a young team and with the physical nature of the challenge, but we responded very well and played some really good football," said Lampard for Chelsea's website.

The classy manager took the time to appreciate the staff working with him since the pre-season.

The Player of the Month award went to another Englishman, Leicester's Jamie Vardy. The striker picked up his fourth award of this kind after scoring four times in three appearances. Including a hat-trick in the historic 9:0 win against Southampton. Now only Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie, Harry Kane, Steven Gerrard, and Sergio Aguero have more monthly Premier League awards.

Vardy was nominated for the award alongside team-mate Youri Tielemans, Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, Manchester City’s Ilkay Gündogan, Sheffield United’s Dean Henderson, and Chelsea’s Willian.

Vardy is currently the league's top scorer with 10 goals.

The Managerial awards for August and September both went to Jurgen Klopp, deservedly so. The first Player of the Month in the new season went to Teemu Pukku of Norwich City, while September belonged to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as both strikers scored five times in the time period.
