Aubameyang's lob fires Arsenal to a winning start

Pierre-Emmerick Aubameyang brought the 0:1 (0:0) win for Arsenal at St.James Park by punishing weak Newcastle defending in the first round of Sunday's Premier League clash.

Unai Emery started the game with many of his new arrivals on the bench and without services of Sead Kolasinac and Mesut Ozil. The first half was far from easy for the Gunners, as hosts were more than ready to fight for the points.

Steve Bruce replaced Spaniard Rafa Benitez in a surprising move earlier this summer. As a former centre-back himself, Bruce would have been disappointed to have seen his defence giving presents when Aubamenyang got the space to score the decider.

The Gabonese striker was left unmarked on the edge of the penalty area and used Ainsley Maitland-Niles's perfect cross from the right to beat Martin Dubravka in the 58' minute.

Later in the game, Emery gave a club-record signing Nicolas Pepe and Dani Ceballos debuts but they didn't impress at all.

For Magpies, the newly signed Joelinton had a lively debut. He tested Bernd Leno a few times but none of the shot was convincing to beat the German goalkeeper. The home team was without a concise idea in the second half despite their hard work and visible determination to score.

It seems this will be a tough season for Newcastle fans and not much of improvement compared to the last season is expected.

It is the first clean sheet for Arsenal in their opening games since 2008/09 Premier League season. As it was the case in many of previous Premier League campaigns, Arsenal have made got a great start.

With the return of Kolasinac and Ozil, this team can achieve a top but don't be surprised if the Gunners fail later in the season. It's now already the tradition for London team - however - Emery might change the pattern and be the one responsible for the new era of Arsenal.
